Clean & Green - homestyle

June 2, 2014

AK_homestyle_IndoorPlants I really enjoyed creating this illustration about indoor house plants for homestyle magazine. It got me inspired to find some interesting containers and plants for our studio. There are so many colours, shapes and forms to chose from its hard to narrow it down!

So good to venture out of our homes and wander further than the end of the road today here in NZ. So weird not to have gone anywhere or seen anyone for so long. Weird questions you ask yourself at a time like this are... Which side of the road do I drive on again? And where did I leave the keys for the car/house? 🤔Stay safe out there everybody! 😊

How is everyone’s lockdown going? I forget what week we are up to now but during this time I’ve been learning a lot!
Early this year I enrolled in an 8 week surface design course called ‘Immersion’ which is run by the lovely @bonniechristine It was so much fun and so full of content my brain very nearly exploded! But it has been great for keeping my mind busy while the weird sci-fi world carries on outside.
I’ve only really dabbled in the world of patterns in the past so it’s been great to have some time to soak it in. Here is a design from a mini collection I made called ‘In the Dust’. This pattern is called ‘Dancing Swallows’ and was inspired by a scene on our farm in the oak tree paddock which has been drought ridden for some time.
I’d love to know what have you been making or learning through this lockdown? 😊✍🏻 #surfacepattern #surfacepatterndesign #swallow #repeatpatterns #immersioncourse #bonniechristine #covid19 #learninginlockdown
Here’s a little media experiment for a story I’ve been developing for the past year about a little boy who has to stay home. It’s kind of crazy that in the space of a week this is now a real world reality for many families. My story despite this sad beginning turns into an unbelievably, adventuress tale with lots of laughter along the way. Stories are great like that - they can transport you from one place to another and draw your attention to things you hadn’t considered.
For all of you who are at home right now there are so many wonderful authors, illustrators and musicians who are sharing their gifts to brighten the days indoors.
Here are just a few of my favourites - follow them with me if you like! Enjoy! 😊💛✍🏻📚 @macbarnett - laugh a minute storytelling
@oliverjeffers - story reading and picture telling - maybe drawing too?
@carsonellis - drawing promps and storytelling
